FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

“A Midsummer Night’s Dream”

Presented by the Wichita Shakespeare Company

The Wichita Shakespeare Company (WSC) opens its 2016 Shakespeare-in-the-Park series with “A Midsummer Night’s Dream.” Shakespeare’s famous comedy of fairies and mortals meeting up in the Athenian wood has been reimagined. In this version, ancient Greece has been updated to the Hippie era of the 1960’s.

The play is directed by first-time WSC director Zoe Burke. Burke serves as the Drama teacher at Buckner Elementary in Wichita. She has also been a featured actress in several past WSC productions. The large impressive cast she has assembled for this production includes Lewis Mize as Oberon, Alison Bridget Chambers as Titania, and Bryson Cole as Puck. Others in the cast include Cat Connolly, Jewell Martinez, Danzel Muzingo Bond, Chelsey Moore, John Lloyd Stafford III, Abri Geist Dennis, Pete Emery, Cynthia Atchison, Michael Criss, David Dillinger Jeffries, Aron Pfingsten, Julia Faust, Noah Segard, David Krasky, Jared Wise, Matt Gurley, Raven Taylor, Stephanie Brean, Veronica Ostroski, and Darscha Bechard.

Shakespeare-in-the-Park will return to the very popular Central Riverside and College Hill Parks in Wichita. New this year is a performance at Harvest Park in Wichita. Parks in Andover, Park City, and Derby will complete the tour. Additionally, a special indoor performance will be held at the Wichita Scottish Rites Center. All shows will begin at 7:00 pm, with an approximate running time of one hour and forty-five minutes. As always, the play is performed free to all audiences but donations are accepted and appreciated. Those attending the park performances are encouraged to bring lawn chairs, blankets and, of course, bug spray. (Note: Seating will be provided for the indoor performance).

In the event of inclement weather, there will be a message posted at 6 pm on the WSC line (316-655-2017) alerting if the show has been cancelled for that evening.
